Manchester United target sees asking price increase to over €25m as Portuguese giants set their demands

Benfica have reportedly raised their valuation of Goncalo Guedes, with the 19-year-old attracting plenty of interest from around Europe.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News last week, United were understood to have sent scouts to watch the talented starlet with a view of making their move.

However, the latest development reported by A Bola suggests that Jose Mourinho may be forced to reconsider after it was claimed that Benfica are looking for well over the €25m previously believed to be enough to prise Guedes away.

Atletico Madrid and Valencia are also named in the report as interested parties in one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Portuguese football.

It’s claimed that Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira is now looking for more than the €25m fee reported when a move to Spain was said to be close in January, and is looking for something closer to the deal which saw Renato Sanches leave the club for Bayern Munich in the summer.

Guedes has just one goal and two assists to his name in nine appearances in all competitions so far this season, although he has proven already that he’s an exciting talent that will continue to be linked with a big move elsewhere in Europe sooner rather than later.

It’s unclear at this stage as to whether or not any of the clubs paired with an interest would be willing to meet Vieira’s demands, as ultimately it does raise the bar and require the likes of United to consider their proposal more closely.
