Real Madrid star receives chilling death threats

Real Madrid attacking midfielder James Rodriguez has been subject to death threats on Twitter, according to ESPN.

The star, along with his mother, has received repeated threatening messages on the social media platform. His mother was sent this photo of a box containing guns, bullets and a threatening message.

The messages mainly came from one account, set up less than a month ago, which has since been shut down by Twitter.

There has been a strong reaction on Twitter, with many people posting messages of support to the player and his mother, Pilar Rubio.

James has not featured for Real recently after picking up a calf injury in the warmup before their disappointing draw against Eibar last weekend. He has now returned to Madrid rather than attending Colombia’s game against Uruguay as a spectator, as was previously planned.

James is a star in Colombia, whose national team he lead to the World Cup quarter finals in 2014.
