Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has taken to social media to wish club legend Sir Bobby Charlton a happy 79th birthday.
Ferdinand also thanked Sir Bobby for his speech which inspired United’s UEFA Champions League win over Chelsea back in 2008.
Ferdinand shared a photo of himself beside Sir Bobby Charlton along with the caption, “The word LEGEND is used very often in sports these days… this man for every positive reason fits the word LEGEND like a glove. Thank you for the words of inspiration on the rainy stairs in Moscow 08! Happy 79th Birthday Sir Bobby.”
Charlton made his debut for Manchester United 60 years ago. During over 17 years at Old Trafford, Charlton made 758 appearances for the club and scored a total of 249 goals. The former striker won three league titles, an FA Cup and a European Cup.
