Time for Paul Pogba to step up for Manchester United and deliver against Liverpool

With the international break coming to an end, focus switches back to domestic matters as Manchester United prepare for their trip to Anfield on Monday night.

The Red Devils face their bitter old foes in the clash of the weekend, and they will be under pressure both on and off the pitch to get a result.

An indifferent start to the campaign has left them in sixth place in the Premier League table, five points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

Further, their upcoming opponents have been impressive for the most part and have bagged 18 goals in seven outings to sit fourth and three points above their fierce rivals ahead of Monday’s showdown.

One man in particular who will have to deliver a stand-out performance is Paul Pogba, as he will come under the spotlight in both facets of the game on Merseyside.

The pressure is on the French international as he’s made an underwhelming start to the season in many people’s eyes, especially when considering he re-joined United in a deal worth £89m this summer, as noted by Sky Sports.

Coming up against the likes of Jordan Henderson in midfield, the 23-year-old has to deliver a mature performance that may see Jose Mourinho ask him to limit his forays into Liverpool territory.

Given the attacking threat that Jurgen Klopp’s side pose, Pogba must stay focused throughout, not allow himself to neglect his defensive duties while also pairing that with an influential role in gaining a foothold in the game for United and pushing them forward and stamping his mark on the game.

It’s big nights like these where many United fans will be looking to the Frenchman to dominate. Given his ability and experience of playing at such a high level for many years already in his career, these are the games that Pogba has to emerge from as one of the more influential figures.

Having scored an excellent goal for France in their win over the Netherlands this week which gained positive reviews from the media in his homeland, United fans will be hoping that it’s a sign of things to come from their star midfielder in the weeks ahead starting at Anfield in what is another huge test for Mourinho’s men.
