World Mental Health Day takes place on 10 October and raises awareness, education of mental health illnesses and also fights against social stigma often associated with mental illnesses.
The first World Mental Health Day took place in 1992 as an initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health which is a worldwide health organisation operating in more than 150 countries.
