Bargain fullback should have Chelsea interested

Colombia took on Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night, with both sides featuring several talented players all through the teams.

Uruguay’s lineup is mainly composed of experienced players, but there are others in their squad who are up and coming stars. In their search for depth at full-back, Chelsea could do much worse than have a look at Gaston Silva, who played an aggressive game from left back for Uruguay. The 22-year-old took comfort from having the dependable Diego Godin to cover for him and pressed forwards when Uruguay were able to break the Colombian press.

Silva is a regular for Granada in La Liga, where he has been unable to impress as the side have struggled. On the back of his performance last night, Chelsea should have a punt just to see if he can develop into a real weapon. If it doesn’t work out, he can always be loaned to Vitesse Arnhem.
