Liverpool set for transfer battle with Arsenal over £20m Serie A striker

Liverpool are reportedly preparing a summer move for Torino and Italy striker Andrea Belotti, with Arsenal also interested in making a bid.

The 22-year-old has built on his impressive performances from last season and added five goals and two assists in six appearances so far this year.

Further, he’s also made his breakthrough with the Azzurri, and scored his first international goal in the win over Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier this month.

According to Calciomercato, Liverpool are keen to make the first move ahead of Arsenal and are said to be preparing a £19.5m offer.

The report goes on to add that Jurgen Klopp doesn’t want to miss out and will act swiftly, although it will take something special to prise him away from the Turin outfit.

Belotti is under contract until 2020 and has scored 17 goals in 40 league appearances since joining the club from Palermo in 2015.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not the Granata are able to resist a significant offer if both Klopp and Arsene Wenger push ahead with a move to bolster their attacking options.

Depending on how Belotti continues to perform between now and the end of the season, both Liverpool and Arsenal could arguably see his price-tag increase if he maintains his current form and goalscoring record, which in turn will make it more difficult for the Premier League giants to secure a move for him in the summer if their interest in genuine.

It could be argued that both clubs could do with a new out-and-out striker as an option in their squad with the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Olivier Giroud not always first options, and Belotti would certainly fit the bill.
