Arsenal striker set for January exit after going without single appearance so far this season

Yaya Sanogo’s time at Arsenal is reportedly coming under threat with claims that he will move to Saint Etienne in January.

The 23-year-old has been unable to make an impression on Arsene Wenger so far this season, having failed to secure a loan move away from the Emirates prior to the summer transfer window deadline.

According to Calciomercato, he could be offered a way out and an opportunity of regular playing time with Saint Etienne keen to take him back to France.

It isn’t made clear in the report as to whether it would be a loan move or a permanent switch, but given his inability to make a breakthrough at Arsenal, he will arguably welcome either chance.

Wenger has several options above Sanogo in the pecking order currently, with Alexis Sanchez being deployed through the middle up front in Olivier Giroud’s absence.

Elsewhere, the likes of Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all battling for the attacking roles in the first-team line-up, and so Sanogo’s chances of getting an opportunity are slim.

The former Auxerre ace has made 11 Premier League appearances for Arsenal in total, and failed to get on the scoresheet on each occasion between 2013 and 2015.

Since then, he has been sent out on loan to the likes of Crystal Palace, Ajax and Charlton Athletic where it hasn’t worked out, and so it has led to this current situation where he now faces an uncertain future with Saint Etienne potentially giving him another chance as he hopes to finally start to deliver.
