Man United team news: Mourinho welcomes pair back to training ahead of Fenerbahce clash

Man United boss Jose Mourinho has been handed a welcome boost after both Morgan Schneiderlin and Anthony Martial returned to full training on Wednesday.

The Red Devils are back in European action this week as they prepare to host Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday night with Mourinho possibly rotating his squad.

Having held Liverpool to a goalless draw at Anfield on Monday night, the Portuguese tactician returns to former club Chelsea on Sunday, and so he’ll be expected to make changes to his line-up to keep his players fresh for a packed schedule.

As confirmed by Sky Sports, both Schneiderlin and Martial are in contention for Thursday’s outing, having recovered from setbacks to resume training and push for a place in the line-up.

Schneiderlin has made just four appearances in all competitions so far this season, amassing just 170 minutes of action in those games as he struggles to establish himself in Mourinho’s preferred line-up.

Meanwhile, his compatriot has fared better with nine appearances in total, and he has contributed a goal and two assists to the team so far this season.

With United winning their last Europa League match against Zorya Luhansk last month, they’ll be hoping to build on that and continue to move towards qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.

Whether or not rotation harms their chances of doing so remains to be seen, but with such a big squad at his disposal and with numerous players on the fringes waiting for a chance to impress, it would seemingly make sense for Mourinho to bring Schneiderlin and Martial back into the frame providing that they’re deemed fit enough to start.
