Southampton were bottom of League 1 and in administration when German born Swiss businessman Markus Liebherr invested in the club.
The Saints went onto rise through all the way up to the Premier League but Liebherr never got to see the club make it to the top-tier as he passed away in 2010.
His daughter Katharina Liebherr inherited the club from her father and continues to run the club today.
Southampton sent out a message on the official club twitter account today remember Liebherr and underlining that they probably would not be going to the San Siro to play Inter Milan in the Europa League tonight had it not been for his investment.
From second bottom of League 1 in 2009 to the San Siro tonight.
