(Video) Moussa Sissoko lucky to escape red card v Bournemouth, Harry Arter may have helped Tottenham star avoid ban

Moussa Sissoko made his eighth appearance for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday as a second-half sub in a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth.

And his cameo could easily have ended early and in disgrace when he appeared to catch Harry Arter in this off-the-ball incident.

Despite appeals for Sissoko to be sent off, the former Newcastle man escaped a red card, perhaps luckily.

It is possibly that the FA will review footage of this incident before deciding whether to punish Sissoko retrospectively.

A three-match ban for violent conduct would be the punishment if Sissoko’s elbow attack was deemed deliberate.

However, Arter moved to calm the situation after full time, telling Sky Sports that he did not think Sissoko intended to hurt him.

“He said to me after that he did catch me but it was by accident,” Arter explained. “He doesn’t seem to be that sort of play, so I’m sure it was by accident and hopefully we can just move on from it.”

Spurs will be hoping that Arter’s words will take this incident off the FA’s agenda and help him avoid a suspension, which could see him miss games against Liverpool, Leicester and Arsenal.
