Arsene Wenger will be looking for goals tonight as his Arsenal side take on Reading in the fourth round of the League Cup. The Gunners fired a disappointing blank against Middlesbrough on the weekend, and this looks like the perfect opportunity against Championship side Reading.
Arsenal vs Reading Team Line Ups
Arsenal: Martinez, Holding, Gabriel, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Elneny, Maitland-Niles, Ox, Reine-Adelaide, Iwobi, Lucas
Reading: Al-Habsi, Watson, Obita, Moore, Blackett, Kelly, Van Den Berg, Evans, McCleary, Harriott, Samuel
Arsenal are ideally positioned in the Premier League, equal at the summit of the table with Manchester City and Liverpool, so the League Cup is sure to prove something of an after thought with the title finally looking within Wenger’s grasp this season.
The Gunners are unbeaten since the start of the season, having lost to Liverpool, and will look to continue their 12 game unbeaten run tonight.
Wenger is sure to ring the changes tonight, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Rob Holding, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Chuba Akpom all set to feature for the Gunners. Olivier Giroud will be eager for game time having featured only a handful of times for Arsenal this season.
For Reading, the big name managerial appointment of Jaap Stam is making slow but steady progress, with the Royals taking only three points from their last five games in the Championship, although the side will still have strong hopes of securing a playoff spot, and that win was last week against Rotherham.
The Royals will be taking 5,000 supporters to the Emirates, which should make for a pulsating atmosphere.
Of course, Reading are not expected to take anything from their visit to the Emirates tonight, and their price of 15/1 speaks volumes at to how the bookies rate their chances. However, with Arsenal drawing a blank on the weekend, there has been plenty of money coming in for another 0-0 draw at 22/1.
That could leave the door ajar for Olivier Giroud to make a stake for more game time for the Gunners – the Frenchman is 10/3 to bag the first goal tonight while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could prove to be the better value at a price of 9/1, which could make for a decent return.
This one kicks off from the Emirates Stadium at 19:45 this evening.
