Its the fourth round of the EFL Cup tonight and we could be set for an absolute belter as high flying Liverpool take on a resugent Tottenham at Anfield.
Both sides will have Premier League title ambitions this season, and with only one point separating the teams it looks like this year’s title race could go right down to the wire as these two teams turn their attention to the Cup.
Liverpool vs Tottenham Confirmed Team News
Liverpool: Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Lucas, Klavan, Moreno, Stewart, Wijnaldum, Grujic, Ejaria, Origi, Sturridge
Tottenham: Vorm, Trippier, Carter-Vickers, Wimmer, Davies, Dier (c), Winks, Onomah, Carroll, Nkoudou, Janssen
The League Cup has its detractors, however there should still be an electric atmosphere at Anfield tonight, with potential silverware the prize and with two good teams coming face to face.
Both Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino will make changes to their sides, but there will still be plenty of quality on display with fans of both sides in for a treat.
Divock Origi will likely come into the team for Liverpool in place of an out of sorts Daniel Sturridge, and the Belgian has an enviable record in the competition, smashing five goals in his last six games in the EFL Cup.
Striker Danny Ings is also set for a start, having been brought in from the cold by Jurgen Klopp. The ex Burnley striker has had less than 30 mins playing time so far this season, so there’s little doubt that he will be eager to make an impression.
Klopp is without his captain Jordan Henderson tonight through suspension, after he picked up another booking on the weekend in the victory against West Brom while Simon Mignolet should come in in place of current favourite Loris Karius between the sticks.
Vincent Janssen should get another try in a starting forward role as he tries to impress the Tottenham faithful once more. With changes to made in the Liverpool back four there could be plenty of opportunity for the Dutch striker, although the Reds have proven a tough nut to crack in recent weeks.
Moussa Sissoko will also be missing for Tottenham through suspension while Pochettino will also make a change in goal, with the little used Michel Vorm replacing Hugo Lloris who is rested for the match.
It should prove to be an interesting clash tonight with Liverpool close to evens to win at home a juicy looking bet, however with so many changes to both sides the 4/1 on Tottenham to win in the 90 minutes is surely worth a play.
As mentioned previously, Divock Origi has a superb record in front of goal in this competition, as his price of 5/1 is surely to attract plenty of interest from punters tonight.
