Writing off Henrikh Mkhitaryan so early is foolish

The signings of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic caused such a stir in Manchester this summer that the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan was largely reduced to a side-show.

The Armenian was signed from Borussia Dortmund for £26.3m after an exceptional season in the Bundesliga, but has barely appeared after a series of niggling injuries. Now, with the attacker having hardly had a chance to contribute, the knives appear to be out for him in the press.

It would be very foolish to write off a player who has such proven quality so early. Mkhitaryan has not had the ideal start to his career at Old Trafford, but plenty of players have recovered from a bad start in the Premier League. Worrying about his physicality is foolish too – plenty of people have said the same things about Juan Mata, David Silva and countless other slight playmakers. In the end, if the player has the determination to succeed in England, they can do it no matter their build.
