Jurgen Klopp’s Reds – who edged past Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-1 win on Tuesday – have been paired with Championship side Leeds United, who will visit Anfield on either November 29 or 30.

Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Cup were boosted on Wednesday when Manchester City and Chelsea both bowed out following away defeats.

The draw has really opened up for the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United too. Both the Gunners and the Red Devils have been given home draws, albeit against Premier League opposition.

What really makes Liverpool favourites, though, is that they are in really hot form right now and, unlike Arsenal and United, they have no European football, so are seemingly more likely to go hard at the EFL Cup, rather than fielding a reserve team.

Liverpool did rotate heavily against Spurs on Tuesday, but that was perhaps because Klopp knew his opposing manager would do the same and he was simply backing his watered-down XI to overpower Tottenham’s – which it did.
