Liverpool team news: Klopp concedes key man could miss Crystal Palace game

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that a few of his players will face late tests to discover if they can face Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The German tactician was speaking at a pre-match press conference on Friday, and specifically mentioned James Milner who he described as being ill on Tuesday before he returned for a light training session on Thursday.

Whether or not the reliable 30-year-old will be able to take his usual spot at left-back this weekend remains to be seen, but it appears as though Klopp may well have to consider a reshuffle while he didn’t go into detail as to which other players could be missing.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool boss was also keen to stress that he will not be rushing youngster Joe Gomez back and will give him plenty of time and patience to reach his full potential.

“Joe Gomez looks really good in training but he has been injured for a long time. We don’t need to rush it or put pressure on him,” Klopp noted.

“During the international break we will have a game and he will play some minutes. Thank God that we don’t have to put pressure on him because we need him tomorrow or something. He’s still a young boy and we will give him the time to come back in the right moment.”

The 49-year-old was full of praise for Palace and respects the threat that they will pose to his side, while he will also have to prepare to face former player Christian Benteke who he believes has now settled at a club where his characteristics and strengths are able to come to the fore.

Evidently though, he’ll be hoping that the Belgian international doesn’t prove that against him this weekend.
