Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has been linked with a shock switch to Arsenal, with Ladbrokes slashing their odds on the move happening.
The season began in positive fashion for the Argentine international who scored 11 goals in his first six games, but he’s now gone six outings without one.
Further, having been dropped for the Champions League clash with Barcelona and subsequently been left out against of the EFL Cup tie with Manchester United, it has unsurprisingly raised some eyebrows over how Pep Guardiola sees him fitting in moving forward.
Given his goalscoring record since moving to Manchester, it would be a huge surprise to see Aguero leave at this point as ultimately he’s the most prolific option that Guardiola has at his disposal and would be a big loss to the club on the face of it.
However, the odds suggest that Arsenal have become a real possibility with the Gunners second favourites behind Real Madrid to complete a deal after going from 16/1 to 6/1.
Ladbrokes News’ Dave Burin told The Sun: “Arsenal are gunning for the Argentine ace and the bookies reckon Aguero could leave City fans seeing red by heading to a Premier League rival.”
Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Tottenham are all included in the list of possible destinations should Aguero opt to leave the Etihad Stadium, but it still seems quite a long shot to suggest that he’s ready to move on at this point, particularly to another English club.
Nevertheless, the bookies believe otherwise and with Arsenal still searching for a world-class striker to solve their long-standing issue up front with a lack of a prolific scorer, funnier things have happened and so perhaps it could be on the cards if the situation at City worsens.
