Jose Mourinho has been sent to the stands during Manchester United’s clash with Burnley this afternoon. Reports are suggesting that he confronted referee Mark Clattenburg at half-time and was subsequently banished from the touchline.
His side had a strong penalty shout turned down just before the half-time break after Matteo Darmian was brought down by Burnley left-back Jon Flanagan. It’s possible that this was the reason behind Mourinho’s anger. Either way, he should know better than anyone that confronting referees in an angry manner is not a smart move.
United have struggled in recent weeks with Mourinho on the touch-line and currently sit sixth in the Premier League table. Perhaps we are about to find out if they will fair better without their manager’s direct influence.
