Barcelona star midfielder Ivan Rakitic has revealed that it would be ‘fantastic’ to work with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola before his career is over.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the City clash in the Champions League, Rakitic revealed that he admired Guardiola and that he took the No. 4 jersey upon arriving at the club in 2014 from Sevilla because of the former Barcelona boss.

Rakitic described Guardiola as being one of the best players to wear the no. 4 jersey and wished him all the best in the future – although he did underline that he wishes him all the best in the future except in tomorrow’s game.

“When I took the No. 4 jersey [at Barcelona], it was because of him. When I saw the opportunity to play No. 4, I took it with both hands. He was one of the best in the world,” Rakitic was quoted as saying on the official City website.

“He’s fantastic and I hope he is really happy and successful in the future…but not tomorrow!

“It would be fantastic to work with him one day.”

Rakitic is match fit and has travelled with the Barcelona squad to City. The reigning La Liga champions won their first encounter with the Citizens by a 4-1 scoreline in Spain and have won all three games thus far in the group stages.

Barcelona do however, have a few injury concerns of their own with Andres Iniesta, Pique and Alba all out injured.
