City did battle with Barcelona on the pitch last night, beating the European champions 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium. Now the two clubs could be set to fight it out off the field, with the signature of a top Colombian defender the prize.

Manchester City are reportedly eyeing a move for 6ft 5in Palmeiras centre-back Yerry Mina.

The 22-year-old has been in fine form this season, impressing at both ends of the pitch.

City have checked on Mina, according to the Daily Mail.

However, the same newspaper claim that Barcelona have the first option to sign Mina for an agreed fee of £8.1m.

That would be a bargain price for a rangy defender – who has scored four goals in ten games this term.

Mina has already been capped four times by Colombia at senior international level.

City and Barca have both been fairly solid at the back so far this term.

Barca have conceded 1.2 goals per game on average in La Liga, while City’s record is even better – 0.9 per Premier League match.
