Tottenham break English Champions League attendance record despite defeat

Tottenham were defeated 1-0 at Wembley stadium against Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday evening.

Spurs have been playing at Wembley due to the construction work going on at the North London outfits stadium White Hart Lane.

Tottenham have yet to actually win a game at Wembley in the Champions League. Spurs lost their first game at their temporary ground having lost their first match 2-1 against Monaco.

Despite losing against Bayer, Tottenham were still able to set an attendance record in the Champions League.

A total of 85,512 fans turned out for the match which set three records. The highest attendance for a Tottenham home game, the highest attendance for an English club home game and a record for an English club in the Champions League at home.

Tottenham dropped into third place in Group E on four points following the defeat. Spurs are currently four points behind leader Monaco.
