Arsenal legend wants Gunners to “absolutely smash” Tottenham as derby day edges closer

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright wants to see his old club “absolutely smash” Tottenham in the north London derby at the Emirates on Sunday.

The bitter rivals meet in the game of the weekend as the Gunners look to extend their impressive form this season and inflict a first Premier League defeat on the visitors.

However, Spurs enter the game with a lack of confidence having gone winless in their last six outings, scoring just three goals in that period.

In turn, Wright wants to see Arsenal put their foot down from the off and hopes that influential individuals such as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez can provide the quality needed to secure a big win for their side.

“I really want them to hammer Spurs and absolutely smash them!” he said, as reported by The Sun.

“Arsenal have goals in their team — they are feeling confident and flying.

“Top players like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are in inspirational form. There are goals everywhere in the team.”

Whether Wright gets his wish or not remains to be seen, but given their performance against Chelsea at home in September, the blueprint is there for what fans are hoping for.

The two rivals played out two draws in the Premier League last season, while Arsenal triumphed in their League Cup meeting at White Hart Lane as they have now made it three derbies without a defeat.

There’s no denying that the momentum is in their favour heading into Sunday’s showdown, but they’ll still have to produce a top performance to claim all three points.
