Everton manager Ronald Koeman has claimed that his side need more players like midfielder Idrissa Gueye, report the Liverpool Echo.
Koeman, whose side were battered 5-0 by Chelsea on Saturday, praised Gueye’s aggression and ability to win second balls before going onto claim that Everton need more players like the Senegalese international. The Liverpool Echo quote him saying: “We need more of those players because it is not always about qualities, it is about mentality and everything without the ball.”
According to Squawka, Gueye has won 35 tackles for the Toffees so far this campaign, more than any other player in the Premier League. To put that into perspective, Kante, who has received much adulation for his ability to break up play in the middle of the park, has only won 22.
Everton were unbeaten in their first five Premier League games, but have only won one of their last six. They remain in sixth place going into today’s set of fixtures, but they need a serious upturn in form if they are going to mount a serious challenge for European qualification this season.
