Manchester United’s £26m flop wants to join a Premier League rival as he eyes January escape

Manchester United winger Memphis Depay reportedly prefers a switch to another Premier League side if he is to leave the club in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old has failed to live up to the expectations that came with him after his £26m move from PSV Eindhoven last year, as per The Express, as he now continues to struggle to impress Jose Mourinho.

According to Le10Sport, despite interest from Marseille, the Dutchman prefers to play in the Premier League and could wait to discover whether or not any club aside from United are willing to give him an opportunity to rediscover the form that made him the standout talent in the Eredivisie not so long ago.

The report claims that Roma are also keen on Depay, but having had a taste of the English top flight, it appears as though the former PSV man is set on remaining in England and proving that he can deliver on the biggest stages.

“Memphis Depay would prefer to play at any Premier League club rather than Marseille,” French journalist Mathieu Gregoire is noted as saying in the report.

“It is the most competitive league; he has one foot in it and certainly won’t want to get out. And especially financially, we do not account for wages these guys have.”

It doesn’t appear as though there has been much interest from England as of yet, with Depay making just four substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season as he struggles to make an impression on Mourinho.

The United boss has several options in that department with the likes of Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford, and it appears as though Depay has fallen to the bottom of that pecking order which in turn makes a January exit a sensible move, regardless of whether or not another Premier League club is the destination.
