Chelsea and Manchester United among teams watching Porto striker who broke 88-year-old record

Scouts from the Premier League were out in force in Portugal last weekend, according to the Sun.

The English paper reports that Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs had scouts watching Andre Silva, the striker who has been making waves for Porto in recent weeks.

The striker plays as a classic number 9, with plenty of strength and bravery to win the ball in the air and lay it off to teammates, as well a nose for goal evident in his scoring record this season.

The 21 year old has scored seven in the league and three in the Champions League for his team, and his excellent club form has been rewarded by a call up to the Portuguese national team. His hattrick against the Faroe Islands in his second game for his country makes him the youngest player to score a hattrick for Portugal, breaking an 88 year old record.

Frustratingly for the clubs involved, Silva would have been available for just £22m earlier in the summer according to the Sun. However any club wishing to purchase him now will have to pay significantly more thanks to a new deal that he has since signed.
