Former Chelsea defender brands Arsenal talisman the most overrated player in the Premier League

Former Chelsea and Tottenham defender Jason Cundy has revealed how little he rates Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.

Writing for Football Fan Zone, as reported by Goal, Cundy revealed his true feelings towards the German international: “When I say this I don’t say it lightly but Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil is the most overrated player in the Premier League.”

Cundy writes this in wake of Ozil’s incredible solo goal against Ludogorets, which drew the 28-year-old much adulation.

His comments could be seen as somewhat outlandish. Ozil provided 19 assists campaign, joint with PSG’s Angel Di Maria as the most in Europe’s top five leagues.

Ozil has also made 83 appearances in a Germany midfield that is packed full of quality, playing a key role as they lifted the World Cup in 2014. Cundy, by comparison, made just three international appearances – and they were for England U21’s.

The German has emerged as one of the most creative and ingenious players in the Premier League since joining the Gunners in the summer of 2013. Cundy is more than entitled to his own opinion, but it isn’t one that should be taken into much consideration.
