Hector Bellerin’s new deal is a huge step forward for Arsenal. The Gunners have been forced into selling players too many times because they couldn’t tie them to a long term deal.
Bellerin looked like he might be one of those players, with Barcelona hovering over the player who they developed in his early years.
But it’s a credit to the board at the Emirates that they’ve been willing to offer their fullback good money – apparently more than £100,000 a week.
The length of the deal – six years – also guarantees that Arsenal will have the Spaniard for the prime of his career, or at the very least will be able to leverage a huge fee for him if he does leave.
With Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez also apparently on the verge of new deals, things are very looking very bright at the Emirates, and the memories of top players sold to Man City and Spain in the past.
