Manchester United favourites to land £20m-rated ace in January ahead of Premier League rivals

Manchester United have reportedly been made favourites by the bookmakers to sign former defender Michael Keane in the January transfer window.

After leaving Old Trafford last year, Keane has established himself as a crucial part of Burnley’s success and was recently called by Gareth Southgate to join up with the England squad.

However, his good form has also led to speculation over his future, with The Daily Star noting last month that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool were all interested in signing the 23-year-old.

It looked as though they would all be beaten to the punch with Leicester City said to have made a £20m bid for the defender on Tuesday, as reported by The Sun, but the bookmakers have a different take on the matter.

As noted by the Manchester Evening News, they have installed United as favourites to land Keane in January after slashing their odds which would be another U-turn from the Red Devils who have already spent big on a former player this year after re-signing Paul Pogba.

Should they move for Keane then it will be seen as a move that is in the best interests of the club, but ultimately there must still be a tinge of disappointment involved given that they are looking back at players that they decided to let go not to long ago.

Keane was outstanding in a recent goalless draw at Old Trafford for Burnley, but if the bookmakers are to be believed then perhaps it won’t be long before he’s back wearing the red of United.

It would certainly be a welcome boost for Jose Mourinho with Eric Bailly currently sidelined with injury while the Portuguese tactician has struggled with injuries elsewhere and a lack of form from his other options.
