Southampton set to test Crystal Palace’s resolve for midfielder

Southampton are considering making a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye in the January transfer window, according to The Sun.

The Sun report that the Saints could be test Palace’s resolve in January with an £8 million bid for the Frenchman.
Palace are in a serious fight against relegation, they sit just a point off of the bottom three. The prospect of jumping ship and reuinting with former boss Claude Puel could be an attractive one for Cabaye.

The pair previously worked together at Lille, where Puel handed the 30-year-old his professional debut. Cabaye went on to play 243 times at the Ligue 1 side, scoring 37 goals before moving to Newcastle in the summer of 2011.

After three years at St. James’ Park, he swapped one world renown city for another, packing his packs and moving to Paris to play for PSG. He struggled for regular game-time at the French champions and subsequently returned to the Premier League with Crystal Palace.

Perhaps now that his club’s Premier League status is in danger, he would be interested in moving to Southampton, who have established themselves as side who can mount a serious challenge for European qualification.
