(Image) Arsenal stalwart delighted to return from injury as he nears return after four months out

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has shared his delight after completing his injury rehabilitation as he now targets a return to action.

The German international has been sidelined since pre-season in July after suffering a knee injury, but has slowly been recovering and building his way towards a comeback.

As seen in the image below and caption, he’s ready to fight for his place in the Arsenal starting line-up once again but could face a difficult challenge.

Laurent Koscielny has found a new defensive partner in summer signing Shkodran Mustafi, and the pair have been very impressive so far this season as they have provided the Gunners with a solid foundation on which to build.

Although there have been some disappointing breaches of the backline, they seem to compliment each other well while Mustafi’s youthfulness and better mobility could make it difficult for Mertesacker to displace him.

Arsene Wenger will undoubtedly rely on the experienced centre-half to play a pivotal role for him between now and the end of the season whether it be on the bench or not, but it remains to be seen how much playing time he gets in that period.
