Steven Gerrard could be set for shock change in career path as he is offered first managerial role

Steven Gerrard has been offered the managerial position at League One side MK Dons, according to Sky Sports.

Sky Sports report that he is set to announce whether he will be taking the role or not on Monday. Gerrard’s contract with LA Galaxy expires in December, and he could be set for a shock change of career path.

The 36-year-old won nine major honours during his 17 years at Liverpool, where he scored 191 goals in 748 appearances. If he is anywhere near as good a manager as he was a player, the MK Dons faithful would be in for a treat. Sky Sports note that he is currently working on his UEFA A coaching licence, and that he confirmed earlier in the week that he has offers both on and off the field.

It’s a sad thought that Gerrard could be set to call time on an illustrious playing career. His dynamism and natural leadership in midfield would be a loss to the game. It is, though, some consolation that he would remain as part of the footballing world – albeit, in the third tier of English football.
