Liverpool have been given a monumental injury scare with Philippe Coutinho being stretchered off during their clash with Sunderland this afternoon.

After a hefty challenge, Coutinho stayed down with medical staff appearing to show concern for the Brazilian’s right ankle. Liverpool’s talisman was subsequently stretchered off with the severity of the injury unclear. It certainly looked bad on first viewing, Coutinho covered his eyes as his ankle was strapped up.

Losing Coutinho would be a huge blow for Jurgen Klopp’s side, he has been in inspired form so far this campaign. The 24-year-old has scored five goals and provided five assists in the Premier League so far this term and is well on his way to bettering his personal best in both of those.

That run of good performances, however, could well be interrupted by a spell on the sidelines if that injury is as bad as it first appeared.

Divock Origi came on his place for Liverpool, who are going to have to take on Sunderland without their star man.
