Liverpool vs Sunderland: confirmed starting lineups – two key stars miss out through injury

Posted by

Liverpool host Sunderland today in their bid to keep pace with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side head into today’s game unbeaten in their last ten in the league, having amassed 24 points out of a possible 30 during that period. That electric form has mounted an unlikely early-season title-charge.

Today’s opponents are relegation battling Sunderland, who have only won two games all season. Those two wins, however, have come in the last two games, with David Moyes finally finding a breakthrough in his efforts to turn their fortunes around.

Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana were ruled out of today’s games with respective calf and groin strains. Roberto Firmino leads the line in Sturridge’s absence, as he has done frequently so far this campaign. Emre Can stands in for Lallana.

Liverpool starting XI: Karius, Clyne, Matip, Lovren, Milner, Can, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Coutinho, Mane, Firmino.

Sunderland starting XI: Pickford, Jones, Kone, O’Shea, van Aanholt, Pienaar, Denayer, Ndong, Watmore, Anichebe, Defoe.
