(Video) Steven Gerrard back at Anfield to further fuel Liverpool return talk

Steven Gerrard announced his retirement from football this week, and the Liverpool legend took advantage of his new-found free time and was back at Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds icon was in attendance as his former club were in action against Sunderland looking to temporarily go joint-top of the Premier League table with a win.

Things are going well for Jurgen Klopp’s side at the moment, but speculation continues to swirl around Gerrard and what he will choose to do next. However, he took his chance to have a day off and soak up some of the famous Anfield atmosphere from the stands.

Klopp left the door open for Gerrard to take up a coaching role at the club this week, as noted by the Liverpool Echo, and although his visit to Anfield this weekend was probably just to watch his old club in action, it will naturally strengthen the speculation.

As noted in the report, the Liverpool hero turned down a chance to take charge at MK Dons, but has also been linked with various other clubs in the last week or so.

Nevertheless, he’ll surely prioritise a return to Merseyside if possible, as long as a return suits both the club and player.
