Liverpool team news: Klopp forced to make EFL Cup changes with four key absentees

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be forced into making changes for their EFL Cup clash with Leeds United on Tuesday night while he will also take the chance to rotate where possible.

With one eye on Bournemouth away in the Premier League on Saturday too, the German tactician will have to manage his squad carefully as they enter a critical period of the season.

Philippe Coutinho will definitely miss out after suffering an ankle injury in the win over Sunderland on Saturday, with the Brazilian in hospital on Monday for further scans.

Elsewhere, Adam Lallana has been sidelined recently due to a groin injury picked up on international duty with England earlier this month.

However, Klopp is pleased with the progress that he’s making although he’s ruled him out of facing Leeds as he isn’t quite there just yet.

In addition, Daniel Sturridge hasn’t resumed training with his teammates as of yet as he continues to be bothered by a calf injury while Klopp added in his press conference on Monday that he’ll have to wait and see on Roberto Firmino’s fitness.

One position that the German tactician did clear up was who would start between the posts, and it will be second-choice shot-stopper Simon Mignolet who plays at Anfield against Garry Monk’s side.

Klopp made 11 changes for the win over Tottenham in the last round, and several academy players will be hopeful of having another chance to impress this time out.

Nevertheless, as they continue to approach the business end of the tournament, the Reds boss will need to think about putting out a strong side if he harbours ambitions of winning trophies and juggling all competitions this season.
