Manchester United struggled to a draw against a tough West Ham team yesterday, and the sorry state of their attacking play was another damning indictment of their transfers this summer.
Despite huge outlays on Paul Pogba, Henrik Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic – to name just a few – United were as bad yesterday as they were in some of the worst games of the Louis Van Gaal era.
How can this many talented players simply not be able to function properly together? Pogba showed little apart from a few flashes. Juan Mata, the man who spent most of the week being lauded for his good performances, was far too quiet. Marcus Rashford seems to have hit something of a “sophomore slump” and none of their attacking play has any speed to it.
The fact that it’s possible to spend to much money with nothing to show for it should really force the people upstairs at Manchester United to have a serious rethink of their transfer and scouting arrangements.
