Antonio Conte to begin phasing out Chelsea star after 18 years and 710 appearances

Antonio Conte is to begin phasing out Chelsea captain John Terry over the next two transfer windows, report the Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail believe Conte is planning to push Terry towards the exit door as he looks to add further reinforcements to his back-line. The tabloid note Leonardo Bonucci and Antonio Rudiger as potential targets for the Italian mastermind.

Terry’s path to the Chelsea first-team has been completely blocked in recent weeks. Since switching to a back three, the Blues have conceded just one goal in seven Premier League games. Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill have formed a formidable trio and it would seem absurd to split them up.

With Kurt Zouma fit again after a lengthy lay-off with an anterior cruciate ligament rupture and Andreas Christensen due to return to the club in the summer, Terry would likely fall further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

If Conte does look to make further investments into his defence as well, then there does not appear to be a place for Terry in his squad. After making 710 appearances across n 18-year spell at the club, Terry’s Chelsea love affair could finally be coming to an end.
