EFL Cup semi-final draw: the stage is set for a Man United vs Liverpool Wembley showdown

The EFL Cup semi-final draw has been made, and the stage is set for a Manchester United vs Liverpool Wembley showdown.

Manchester United will face Hull City in the next round, while Southampton face Liverpool. You would have to fancy United and Liverpool to win those fixtures, and set up what would be a mouthwatering final.

United brushed past West Ham this evening to book their place in the next round thanks to braces from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Anthony Martial. Their opponents Hull defeated Newcastle in a penalty shootout to reach the semis.

Liverpool beat Leeds United by two goals to nil in their quarter final clash. History was made at Anfield, as Ben Woodburn eclipsed Michael Owen to become the club’s youngest ever goalscorer. Southampton punished a toothless Arsenal side at the Emirates to reach the final four.

If there is one thing we know for sure about domestic cup competitions, however, it is that the favourite does not necessarily end up being the victor.
