There comes a point where referees need to stop being jobsworths and have a little bit of humanity.
Edinson Cavani paid tribute to those affected by the Chapecoense air disaster after scoring a penalty for PSG this evening. He revealed what appeared to be a home-made shirt dedication to the victims of the crash, and was subsequently booked by the referee.
Of course, by the letter of the law, it is worthy of a yellow card, but in situations like this – referees should be allowed to think for themselves.
