Liverpool are in great form but that hasn’t stopped them being linked with plenty of reinforcements…
Virgil van Dijk
Ladbrokes make Liverpool favourites to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk – although there isn’t much in it. The Reds are 11/4, with Manchester City close behind at 3/1.
The idea that Manchester City are ready to spend big again after buying John Stones in the summer is surprising, but perfectly possible. They’ve also spent big on Eliaquim Mangala and Nicholas Otamendi in recent seasons, and it doesn’t look like they’ll stop until they have their man. Liverpool should bid high and early to beat City to the defender.
The Daily Mail are one of many publications liking the Reds with Bundesliga sensation Christian Pulisic.
The youngster plays at Borussia Dortmund, so Jurgen Klopp will be well aware of what he can do.
But the transfer connection goes even deeper – with Philippe Coutinho now looking to be out till January at least, Liverpool need cover up front, and Pulisic’s tricky dribbling makes him the ideal player to slot in to their front three.
Given that the Mail quote his price at just £25m, it could be a very achievable transfer for the Reds, even in January.
A slightly leftfield one from the Birmingham Mail, who have Aston Villa full back Jordan Amavi on Liverpool’s Christmas wish list.
The defender didn’t get much of a chance to impress for Villa as they vanished down the Premier League plughole last season, but in the Championship he’s been showing what he can do on the attack, and his impressive form under Steve Bruce is attracting major suitors once again.
In the face of interest from Marseille, Amavi has insisted he wants to stay at Villa. Whether he would feel the same way should an offer come in from Anfield remains to be seen.
A much less leftfield one now from the Daily Mirror, with Youri Tielemans being linked to every club with the potential means of signing him. Liverpool join the ranks of just about every club in Europe in being linked to the talented Belgian, who broke into the Anderlecht side at 16 and has never looked back.
With such hot competition Liverpool can’t take anything for granted, but Klopp’s excellent record for bringing through youngsters should count in his favour if it comes down to Tielemans making the call between clubs.
Now the 19 year old has made his international debut his price will be rising. The Reds must act quickly to steal a march on their rivals.

With all these potential players coming in, it’s no surprise that players are being linked with departures from Anfield too.
While one’s mind might turn to the Daniel Sturridge’s of the team to find players ready to leave, the Mirror have offered Adam Lallana to PSG as a possibility.
It’s difficult to see Lallana leaving Liverpool just as Jurgen Klopp appears to be turning the club into genuine contenders again, but then again PSG can offer enough money to turn anyone’s head.
The Mirror have the French club offering £40 for the former Southampton winger, who has looked fantastic since settling into the midfield trio in Klopp’s dynamic formation.
However that sum looks positively reasonable compared to the £200,000 a week The Sun say the Paris club will be paying him.
