Man United transfer news: PSG preparing big-money move for 20-year-old despite response to Mourinho

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly preparing a swoop for Man United forward Anthony Martial as they look to take advantage of his troubles this season.

Jose Mourinho was critical of the French international last month, suggesting that he must take his chances at Old Trafford when given an opportunity given the level of competition at the club.

“You have one opportunity, you have two, you have three – if you don’t bite, then somebody comes and takes the meat,” he said, as reported by Sky Sports.

Martial provided the perfect response by scoring twice in the EFL Cup win over West Ham United on Wednesday night, but it hasn’t prevented speculation over his future dominating the headlines just a day later.

According to The Sun, PSG are looking to take him back to Ligue 1 having had his problems in Manchester this season with a lack of regular first-team football and will hope to be successful on this occasion having failed when the youngster left Monaco to join United last year.

Martial has scored just four goals and provided two assists in 14 appearances in all competitions so far this season, and it’s fair to assume that his priority at this stage will be to build on his performance in midweek and rediscover the form that made him so important to United last season.

However, if the problems with Mourinho continue and he finds himself back on the bench on a more regular basis again with the likes of Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford ahead of him in the pecking order, then perhaps a move to Paris could be an appealing proposition.

United splashed out £36m on the Frenchman last summer, as noted by The Sun, and so any offer from PSG will have to be in excess or equal to that at least to even test the resolve of the Old Trafford hierarchy.
