Manchester United on high alert as in-demand solution to defensive woes is available

The agent of Manchester United target Victor Lindelof has revealed that he is set for talks with a number of the biggest clubs in Europe.

The 22-year-old has been linked with various clubs in recent months, as noted by ESPN FC, and United have been regularly mentioned as being one of them along with Paris Saint-Germain and Inter.

Having impressed since moving to Portugal and having established himself as a Swedish international, Lindelof has plenty of admirers and it sounds as though it’s a situation that his agent, Hakan Cetinkaya, will take advantage of in the January transfer window.

“The transfer window isn’t open yet, but Victor is already very much in demand,” he told Portuguese paper Record. “As a result, I’ve scheduled interviews with some of the biggest clubs in Europe to talk about his future.

“The most important thing is for the deal to be done at the right moment. But I’m optimistic. There’s a good chance he’ll leave the club this winter. If not, it’ll be next summer.”

It’s understandable as to why United are interested in the highly-rated youngster, as ultimately Jose Mourinho is still looking for reliable and long-term options in defence.

With Eric Bailly currently injured and away for the African Cup of Nations in January, it leaves Mourinho to pick between the likes of Chris Smalling, who is coming back from his own injury problem and criticism from the United boss, along with Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo.

For a club with aspirations of winning the Premier League and silverware in Europe, those options clearly aren’t good enough and so Mourinho is set to act either in January or next summer to rectify the situation.

Word of Cetinkaya’s comments will travel fast and United will have to act swiftly in order to beat the competition, but it looks as though they will prioritise their defence in the New Year.
