Arsenal face major transfer concern as indispensable 28-year-old refuses to rule out shock exit

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has decided to give Gunners fans a heart attack after refusing to rule out a sensational return to Real Madrid.

The 28-year-old moved to north London in 2013 from the Spanish capital, and has gone on to become a pivotal part of Arsenal’s success in recent years.

While they attempt to put together another Premier League title push this season and win silverware, Ozil has started the season well with seven goals and four assists in 17 games in all competitions.

However, in an interview with Marca, the German international has caused concern amongst the Arsenal ranks by leaving the door open to a return to Madrid in the future.

“I am very happy playing in such a big club like Arsenal, which has amazing fans and they also encourage me a lot.

“I am playing very well in London, but in football you never know… We’ll see what happens in the future.”

Ozil has a contract that runs until 2018 with the Gunners, but as the wait over an extension continues, it will only intensify speculation that he could leave the Emirates.

On one hand this is an interview with a Spanish newspaper, and it also adds pressure on Arsenal to secure his future, so it could be seen as a tactical move from Ozil.

However, it also raises alarm bells too as if there is a part of him that misses life in Madrid, then a return may go from being a joke to a legitimate possibility if Arsenal don’t match his ambitions and offer him the deal he is seeking.

Ozil won various trophies during his time in Madrid, but he’ll have to get his mind focused on the task in hand this weekend as fourth-placed Arsenal look to pick up consecutive wins in the league when they take on West Ham United at the London Stadium.
