Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas linked with stunning return to Arsenal

Today’s Daily Express has linked Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas with a return to his former club Arsenal, in one of the strangest transfer rumours of the year.

The paper claim that Fabregas, who has been out of favour at Chelsea under Antonio Conte, is a target for Arsene Wenger.

Fabregas started his career under Wenger at Arsenal, and the two presumably have a great relationship.

But given Arsenal’s strength in depth in midfield, a move for the 29 year old whose best years appear to be behind him seems very unlikely, even if he did remind everyone what he can do with a great performance against Man City.

Fabregas was a surprise inclusion in Chelsea’s first team yesterday after an injury to Nemanja Matic, and the Spaniard put in an excellent performance. The fact that he was Antonio Conte’s go-to man to replace a first choice centre-mid suddenly gives a lot more weight to the story that the Italian has been spinning ever since Fabregas was first linked away from Chelsea: he is an important player and Conte does not want to sell him.
