Desperate Everton could beat Chelsea to top defensive target

It’s been a long time since Everton have been competing with teams like Chelsea for transfer targets. But according to the Daily Mirror, that’s exactly what’s about to happen next month as the two go head to head over the future of young English talent Michael Keane.

The Burnley defender was reportedly the subject of interest from Chelsea, but the Blues recent good defensive form has lessened their need for cover at the back.

Everton meanwhile are suffering badly at the back, and with wealthy new owners at the club, Ronald Koeman may be given enough money in January to actually outbid the Blues. Burnley will be hoping that the interest is still strong from both sides, potentially sparking a bidding war for their former Man United defender.

Whatever happens, Everton are in desperate need of a defender. They are struggling at the back and both of their first choice centre backs are well past 30. Burnley could be in for serious payday this January if they’re willing to give up their prize asset.
