Jesse Lingard rejects Man United offer as dispute threatens to destabilise Jose Mourinho further

Manchester United’s season looked to have passed its low point with a few important results for Jose Mourinho’s men. But now fresh disputes with key players look like they could damage team spirit and undo so much of the hard work the side have put in to turn things round.

Jesse Lingard has emerged as an important player for United over the last two seasons, and as one of the few products of the youth academy still in the side he represents a lot for the Old Trafford side. However according to the Daily Mirror the midfielder is not happy with the new £60,000 a week contract being offered to him by the club.

While this is double Lingard’s current wage, it’s not much compared to the amount that Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba are on. More relevantly perhaps, Harry Kane – another home grown talent of a similar age – has just signed a new deal reported to be over £100,000 a week.

While Lingard surely can’t believe he’s worth that, it’s clear why he thinks he can squeeze a little bit more out of his employers.
