Lucky Chelsea too dependent on Diego Costa and in line for a harsh comedown

Chelsea have made it to another week in the Premier League with their astonishing winning streak continuing. This was perhaps their hardest test yet, and the Blues were incredibly lucky not to have been several goals down against City. Kevin De Bruyne’s eye watering miss was a huge let-off for Chelsea who are a good team.

That isn’t to say Chelsea aren’t a very good team – perhaps the league’s best. But both last week against Spurs and this week against City they relied on their striker scoring with almost every shot. With quality players on the pitch you can count on games like that, but Chelsea will not win the league relying on their opponents’ missing chances while the Blues take every one of theirs – it’s simply not sustainable. Diego Costa cannot put in a 9/10 performance week in week out, this hot steak will fade eventually.

The Blues must develop a way of re-balancing these big games and learning how to deal with high quality opponents who know how to press them. Otherwise there could be a very rude awakening around the corner.
