Chelsea star heading out despite title-winning performance

Cesc Fabregas stepped into the breach on Saturday and performed heroically as Chelsea saw off Manchester City.

The Spanish midfielder was drafted in at the last minute to replace the injured Nemanja Matic and exceeded all expectations as the Blues dispatched Pep Guardiola’s side with brutal counter attacking play.

Fabregas played a vital role in this with his long passing from the back, including the vital assist for Diego Costa’ go-ahead goal.

Despite this, the Gazzetta dello Sport claim that the midfielder will be on his way out in January, with AC Milan still topping the list of potential destinations.

Saturday’s reminder of Fabregas’ quality will have raised the price a little, and may have made a loan move more tempting for Chelsea, who would like to see their asset increase in value before they sell it.

Fabregas remains a popular figure at Stamford Bridge because of moments like Saturday, and fans will be disappointed – although understanding – if he departs.
