Influential Chelsea star was actually signed for bargain £28m but pocketed huge €2.4m bonus in 2015

Chelsea reportedly signed Eden Hazard for £28m, not the £32.5m reported at the time, according Football Leaks who have also released his contract details.

As per Belgian publication Le Soir, the Chelsea forward is under the spotlight in the latest release from controversial website Football Leaks.

Included in the details is Hazard’s transfer fee when the Blues signed him from Lille in 2012, with reports at the time insisting that he had arrived in a deal worth £32.5m.

According to Football Leaks, Chelsea in fact paid £28m for his services, and given the impact that he has made at Stamford Bridge in the four years since, it’s fair to say that it was a good bit of business to sign a top-class player for under £30m.

However, that isn’t where the figures end as Hazard’s contract has also come under scrutiny with the report noting that he received a staggering €2.4m bonus for winning the Premier League Player of the Year award in 2015 after leading Chelsea to the title.

Further, it’s claimed that he earned €4.71m in his first season with Chelsea, before his salary increased to €5m in the second.

Having signed a new deal in February last year though, it’s reported that the 25-year-old is now on more than double that after being rewarded for his form in the season before last.

Last year was one to forget for the pacy winger, but under Antonio Conte so far this season, he has proven that he is getting back to his best.

Chelsea sit top of the table after 14 games, and if Hazard can continue to have the kind of impact he is having currently, then he’ll certainly continue to pay the club back for their faith in him and the money spent to sign him.
