Tottenham injury news: Pochettino receives major boost as defensive duo return to full training

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is set to welcome back defensive duo Toby Alderweireld and Ben Davies after both returned to training on Tuesday.

The pair have been stepping up their return to full fitness, and on Tuesday both were seen training with the first team as they look to be in contention for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow.

Alderweireld has been absent since suffering a knee injury at West Bromwich Albion in October, while Davies has been sidelined after picking up an ankle injury in the loss to Bayer Leverkusen last month.

However, Pochettino has confirmed that the former is in the squad for Wednesday’s game while Davies will be available for selection ahead of the weekend, as noted in the tweets below from ESPN FC correspondent @Dan_KP.

It will be another huge boost for Spurs given the recent return of Harry Kane from injury, as they now have a fully fit squad to select from with key individuals returning to lead their charge.

Tottenham sit in fifth place in the Premier League table, and although their main priority will be to win on Wednesday in order to secure a place in the Europa League, they will also be desperate to climb back into the top four in the Premier League and put pressure on those above with leaders Chelsea currently seven points clear of them.
